#PrEPSaves Latonia
“I was in a relationship and he received his diagnosis while we were together… When he received his diagnosis, I went and got tested. Nobody ever mentioned anything to me about PrEP. The clinician even asked, ‘Are you going to stay in this relationship?”
Latonia shares her experiences as a Black cisgender woman in a mixed status relationship trying to access and maintain PrEP care while encountering stigma, misinformation, and coverage barriers.
“[My gynecologist] looked at me and said, ‘Girl, at our age you should know better.’ I said, ‘I do know better, that’s why I’m asking for a refill.”
Latonia overcame barriers to PrEP access through telehealth, but her insurance still did not cover labs.
“A National PrEP Program would prevent me from jumping through hoops to access PrEP.”
