Our Work

National HIV Prevention

Advocacy and coalition-building towards a National PrEP Program for uninsured and underinsured individuals while holding insurance companies accountable to covering the full costs of PrEP medication and medical services. Learn about past efforts and successes.

National PrEP Program

Our goal has always been the same: create a National PrEP Program to make HIV prevention medication accessible to everyone who needs it.

In July, 2018, PrEP4All released a whitepaper outlining the urgent need for a National PrEP Program to immediately address significant disparities in uptake of HIV PrEP. Four years later, The Biden Administration’s FY23 Budget requested nearly $10 billion to fund a PrEP for All to End the HIV Epidemic program. This program, a direct result of our initial proposal, could increase PrEP access for hundreds of thousands of people across the country.

To achieve equitable access, PrEP4All and advocates are pressing for:

1

Full funding to meet the needs of individuals who can benefit from PrEP

2

Completely new infrastructure for simple, uncomplicated PrEP access

3

Innovative and effective campaigns to increase knowledge of and demand for PrEP

4

Community partnership in every aspect of a national PrEP program
We are already leading the fight for a National PrEP Program.

Payor Accountability & Insurance Advocacy

Braidwood v. Becerra Town Hall

The 2023 ruling from Judge Reed O’Conner in the Texas Braidwood v. Becerra case, which is currently under appeal, could impact access to PrEP and other preventive health interventions for millions of Americans. The ruling states private insurers are no longer required to cover certain preventive care services under the Affordable Care Act, including PrEP.

PrEP4All, Lambda Legal, the Center for HIV Law and Policy, and the Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation at Harvard hosted an update on Braidwood v. Becerra, the 5th Circuit case that impacts PrEP access, on June 28, 2024. Watch the recording now for analysis of the decision, how it affects PrEP and preventive care access now and how it could affect it in the future.
